A Visit to See Mahali and Her Friends

The Journey to Udawalawe

Some journeys stay with you long after they end.

Recently, our team had the privilege of visiting the Elephant Transit Home in Udawalawe, where we finally met Mahali; the young elephant we proudly support through the Mahali Collection.

Named after the collection that carries her story, Mahali is one of many orphaned elephant calves being cared for at the Transit Home before they are eventually released back into the wild. Seeing her in person was both humbling and heartwarming. What began as a conservation initiative connected to a collection suddenly became something much more real.

A Story of Resilience

As we watched Mahali and the other calves gather together, it was impossible not to be moved by their resilience. Each elephant has a story, and behind every playful interaction and curious glance is a journey of recovery, care, and hope.

The Elephant Transit Home plays a remarkable role in protecting Sri Lanka’s wildlife. Unlike traditional captive environments, the focus here is rehabilitation. The calves are given the care they need while maintaining minimal human interaction, preparing them for a future where they can thrive independently in their natural habitat.

More Than a Collection

Our visit was a reminder of why the Mahali Collection was created in the first place. Beyond clothing, it represents a small opportunity to contribute towards something meaningful; helping protect and preserve one of Sri Lanka’s most treasured species.

Through the Mahali Collection, 5% of proceeds are directed towards supporting Mahali’s care and conservation efforts. Thanks to every customer who has chosen a piece from the collection, you are part of this story too.

Until Next Time

Meeting Mahali reminded us that even small actions can have a lasting impact. We left Udawalawe inspired, grateful, and more committed than ever to supporting her journey.

Until next time, Mahali.
